Om Srim Navasakthi Sri Saradha Devyai Namaha

Sri Navasakthi Sri Saradha Devi Temple History

The Cholas ruled the region on the southern side of the River Kaveri, a place prominent for its Moorthi, Thalam, and Theertham, known as Gowri Mayuram or Mayiladuthurai. It is believed that Parvathi Devi, in order to eliminate her sins, appeared here in the form of a peacock and performed pooja to Lord Shiva. As a result, she regained her original form. Lord Shiva performed the Gowri Thandavam dance here.

Sri Navasakthi Sai Saradha Devi was worshipped by Bhairagiyars more than 300 years ago. The Devi revealed that she is inscribed under this place (Mayiladuthurai) and would return soon.

Many years ago, when our Guruji visited the Madhurakaliamman Temple, the Devi appeared in his dream and revealed, “Sri Navasakthi Saradha Devi had a temple here. Therefore, Homams and various good activities should be conducted in a proper manner. The temple will be established along with the Devi’s Prasannam.”

The idol of Devi is made of Panchaloha (an alloy of five metals), similar to Lord Nataraja Swami of Chidambaram, and it captivates the eyes of devotees.

  • Left upper hand: Devi holds an “Amritha Kalasam” (nectar pot). As she is an incarnation of Lakshmi, worshipping her gives a similar blessing as worshipping Goddess Mahalakshmi.

  • Left lower hand: Devi holds a “Volai Chuvadi” (wooden book leaf). Since she is also an incarnation of Saraswathi, worshipping her grants the benefits of education, spiritual thought, business success, and artistic growth.

  • Right upper hand: Devi holds a parrot with an “Akshara Mala,” resembling Goddess Parvathi and Madurai Meenakshi. This symbolizes boldness, Shakti (power), and victory.

  • Right lower hand: Devi shows the “Chin Mudra,” a gesture that encourages devotees to relinquish personal desires and focus on divine thoughts.

Devi is also an incarnation of Raja Rajeshwari. Worshipping her is akin to offering pooja to the three Moorthis, thirty crores of Devas, and the Navagrahas (nine planets).

Her devotees are relieved from mantras, tantras, enemies, and debts. They attain peace of mind, good health, and a blessed married life for those facing challenges in marriage. All enemies will become friends, and devotees’ wishes will be fulfilled with numerous wonders.

Sri Vidya

Lord Shiva introduced 64 Tantras to this world, with Vashiyam, known as Ashtamasiddhi, being one of them. He also revealed the supreme power of “Sri Vidya” to the world.

Lord Shiva offered Sri Vidya to Hayagriva, who then passed it to Sage Agasthiyar, and Agasthiyar spread it across the world with his consort Devi “Lobhamuthra.”
